She's Made Us Better

When Ryan and I were first starting out on the adoption journey we had to attend this adoption seminar-thing (to adopt you have to have a certain amount of training, this was our training.) It was fantastic, we learned a ton. There was a birth mother panel where 3 birth moms told their stories (that may have been my favorite part.) But they also had adoptive parents share stuff too. One of them said that from the time her children were tiny she would tell them their "family story". About how they had not been able to conceive and so they had decided to adopt, about their birth parents, and about how they came into their family. We thought that was a fantastic idea. So when Abby was 6 months old we made her a photobook that tells our family story. We read it to her often. We wanted the telling of our story to never feel awkward. We wanted her to always know how wanted she is and how loved, by all her parents. So in it we included a letter we asked Cheyenne to write to her explaining why she chose to place Abby. In it she told Abby about how much her life has changed because of Abby, how she has become a better person because of Abby, and how she continues to make better choices because of Abby. Abby has made me better too, and so has Cheyenne. From Cheyenne I have increased in love and compassion (or at least I think I have) and humility too. (You can see our book here if you want to.)
My song for today is "For Good" from Wicked:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEdnIvnCko8
Another good song for this is "Each Life That Touches Ours for Good":https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t90eU0Kputg
